1980s Davi Dan Belgium Brutalist Metallic Jacket
Exceptional 1980s Davi Dan jacket, made in Belgium. A highly sculptural design featuring asymmetrical construction throughout, with each sleeve formed differently and each lapel cut to a different shape. From behind it genuinely looks like carved stone or folded sheet metal rather than polyester. Large glossy buttons sit at varying positions across the front, adding to the deliberately off-balance design.
The exaggerated shoulders create an architectural silhouette that feels almost Brutalist in appearance. From the side and back, the jacket resembles a folded sculpture rather than a traditional garment. The metallic silver and bronze splatter pattern sits over a black satin-like ground, creating the effect of oxidised metal, stone or industrial paintwork.
An amazing example of late 1980s European design that remains completely modern. A piece like no other I’ve seen.
