Mid-Century Straw Hat by MK Milliners Sydney - Sculptural Braided Brim

A beautifully sculptural mid-century straw hat by MK Milliners, Sydney.

 

This piece has the elegant proportions typical of the period- a softly structured crown finished with a pale grosgrain ribbon and a dramatic braided brim that creates a wonderful frame around the face.

While MK Milliners was a Sydney milliner rather than a couture house, the construction and shape show the thoughtful craftsmanship of mid-century millinery. The braided brim detail gives it a sculptural quality that photographs beautifully and adds subtle drama when worn.

I’ve used this hat frequently in BOYD styling shoots, which says a lot about its versatility. 

 

Condition

 

Very good vintage condition. The straw remains crisp with excellent structure. Light signs of age consistent with time but overall beautifully preserved.
