Late 1950s Sculptural Frame Bag with Scalloped Detail and Original Contents (Dijene Antacid, Ephemera)
A late 1950s-early 1960s structured frame bag in a rich cognac tone, finished with scalloped detailing and a heavy sculptural clasp. The silhouette is pure mid-century: clean, architectural, and quietly playful
The exterior appears to be a vintage vinyl / faux-leather (common in this period and prized for its sleek finish), set into a gold-tone metal frame.
Inside, the bag is almost shockingly well preserved: a pale jacquard lining with no visible staining or age spotting. The only note is that the side pocket has come away on one side (an easy repair if desired, and it does not affect the bag’s overall structure or usability).
And then - the best part: it was discovered with its original contents still inside, like a small personal time capsule. Included as found:
- a charming mid-century paper piece (kitchen tea invitation ephemera)
- a small floral textile item (handkerchief/cloth)
- two wrapped “Dijene” antacid tablets (included as found for historical interest; not for consumption)
A gorgeous bag on its own - made even better by the story it carries.
