Late 1940s–Early 1950s Sculptural Floral Cocktail Dress

An extraordinary late 1940s to early 1950s dress constructed in a highly unusual textured floral fabric with dramatic sculptural shaping throughout the hips and waist. Pieces with this level of architectural construction are exceptionally rare to encounter today, particularly outside couture or small-scale high-end dressmaking of the period.

The silhouette is unmistakably postwar- a sharply defined waist contrasted against exaggerated curved hips and softly structured shoulders, reflecting the influence of the “New Look” era while pushing it into far more avant-garde territory. The oversized sculptural pockets project outward from the body almost like panniers, creating an exaggerated hourglass shape that feels strikingly modern even decades later.
