Early-Mid 1970s Levi’s Cut-Off Denim Shorts
A rare and beautifully worn pair of Levi Strauss & Co. denim shorts from the early to mid-1970s, cut down from original Levi’s jeans during the period when denim was still treated as everyday workwear rather than fashion.
Unlike modern reproductions, these shorts were made the way Levi’s were actually worn in the 1970s- shortened through necessity, climate, and use, not trend.
What makes this pair especially compelling is the honesty of the wear:
- Original Levi’s denim with natural fading and patina
- Period-correct cut hem with fraying formed over decades
- Original leather patch with pronounced age and softness
- Authentic pocket wear and reinforcement marks consistent with long-term use
- Genuine repairs and thinning in high-stress areas, including back pocket and seat
These details are not flaws - they are evidence of how denim lived before it was archived, reproduced, or stylised. Increasingly difficult to find in this condition
A true piece of lived-in American denim history.
One of one. No reproductions.

Why These Are Collectible
Original Levi’s cut-off shorts from the 1970s are increasingly scarce.
Most surviving examples were worn to destruction or later altered.
What remains - especially pairs that retain:
- original denim character
- intact pocket structure
- readable leather patch
- are now sought after as true artefacts of 1970s denim culture.
