Early 1940s Hand-Made Straw Hat with Veil Unlabelled - Attributed to an Australian Milliner

Sale price$45.00

A beautifully preserved hand-made straw hat dating to the early–mid 1940s, attributed to an Australian milliner and believed to be individually crafted rather than commercially produced.

Woven from tactile, early millinery straw and shaped by hand, this piece features a softly structured crown, short practical brim, and restrained grosgrain ribbon trim — hallmarks of wartime elegance. A delicate original net veil remains in place, now fragile with age, adding to the hat’s authenticity and historical presence.

Unlabelled, as many hand-made milliner’s pieces of the era were, this hat closely matches the construction and straw work seen in other confirmed examples by the same maker.

The condition is remarkable for its age. The straw and structure remain strong and intact, with only age-related wear to the veil.

A deeply personal and collectible piece of 1940s millinery history.
