1970s European Tailored Tuxedo Tailcoat Jacket

European-made tailored tuxedo jacket dating to the 1970s. Constructed in black suiting fabric with satin-faced peak lapels, double-breasted front, elongated tailcoat back and traditional formalwear detailing throughout.

This piece was acquired from a Finnish dealer and presents as a bespoke or tailor-made garment rather than standard ready-to-wear production. The quality of construction, weight of the cloth, internal finishing and traditional fastening methods are immediately evident when handled. The jacket is fully lined in an exceptionally smooth, high-quality silky fabric with a luxurious hand feel.

Although originally made as menswear, the cut works particularly well when worn oversized on a female frame. Being a small men’s size, it has the slightly oversized cut that designers try to emulate making it the perfect womenswear piece. The large shoulders, waist shaping and long tail create a look that transcends decades
