1940s Fruit of the Loom Rayon Satin Slip Dress
A 1940s Fruit of the Loom rayon satin slip in a soft peach tone. Cut on the bias with geometric diamond panel detailing to both the front and back bodice, creating a structured line that allows it to be worn well as a dress.
The rayon satin has a beautiful weight and drape with a lustre very similar to silk. Adjustable shoulder straps allow the fit to be altered, and the bias cut skims the body perfectly without restriction.
This piece is considerably better than most slips that turn up from the 1940s. The cut is what makes it interesting. The diamond-shaped bust panels and matching back yoke give it more structure than a typical lingerie slip, and the bias-cut body hangs beautifully. The rayon satin also has that dense, liquid sheen that modern polyester slips rarely achieve.
Unlike many slips of the period, this is a wearable size and works well as either lingerie or outerwear.
