1940s–50s Varsity Knit Cardigan with Chenille Letter Patch
A rare mid-century varsity knit cardigan dating to the late 1940s–1950s.
Knitted in heavyweight wool with a button front, ribbed cuffs and hem, and traditional varsity details including a chenille letter patch, athletic motif appliqué, and chain-stitched name embroidery.
Earlier than the more commonly seen leather sleeve varsity jackets, knitted pieces like this were worn as everyday school wear. A rare and incredibly well preserved piece of American mid-century sportswear.
