1940s-50s Hand-Knitted Wool Vest | Folk Stripe Knit
A beautifully preserved hand-knitted wool vest, dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1940s-early 1950s.
The best is made of traditional folk-style striping and a dense, textured wool knit. The construction shows signs of domestic hand-craft: hand-worked buttonholes, hand-seamed panels, and a separately knitted button band. These details are characteristic of mid-century home knitting and are rare to find in such intact condition.
The buttons appear to be later replacements, which is common for garments of this age.
The vest is in excellent vintage condition. A small area has been professionally restored, leaving no visible trace. There is a small hole in the right pocket lining. Please see photographs.
