80s - 90s Cut-Out Bodycon Dress

There are pieces that feel vintage, and then there are pieces that still look ahead of their time. This red bodycon dress falls firmly into the second category. Cut from an ultra-high-shine stretch fabric with a liquid, almost molten finish, it hugs the body while dramatic side cut-outs carve out the silhouette. The elongated sleeves have additional cut-out detailing, while the wide neckline sits perfectly balanced across the shoulders. 

Dating to the late 1980s - 1990s, this is the kind of dress that captures the era’s fascination with sculptural body-conscious dressing. On the body it becomes even more fantastic, with the cut-outs creating shape and movement that are difficult to appreciate on a hanger or mannequin. While the label is an unknown, the design is anything but. It has the confidence and architectural approach of current designers, making it just as wearable today as it was decades ago.

This is one of those pieces that I couldn’t believe my luck in finding- a rare survivor in exceptional condition and a genuine statement piece for those who love daring vintage design.
